Wolfenstein 3D is often considered to be the granddaddy of FPS games, even though there were others developed beforehand, like Hovertank 3D and Catacomb 3D. Wolfenstein 3D is credited with kicking off the interest in the genre, with id’s following title, Doom, taking it to all new levels.

The Dark Mod isn’t a standalone game like DNF is, though. It’s not even really a mod, either. TDM is more like a TC: a total conversion for Doom 3 - and it’s one inspired by the classic Thief titles from the late 90’s and early 2000’s. It was actually after Thief: Deadly Shadows came out in 2004, that the team behind it got together and decided they could do better.
